A Fresh E-commerce Brand Growing Its Online Presence

This client is a specialized e-commerce retailer dedicated exclusively to mobile phones, smartwatches, and accessories. With a 100% digital purchasing model featuring free nationwide delivery and the option for pickup at physical locations, this brand represents a major, high-stakes e-commerce venture in the region.

When it launched its online store, the company faced a common e-commerce hurdle: establishing domain authority and top-of-funnel reach against long-established competitors.

While core product and category pages were fully optimized by our team, the domain lacked non-branded organic touchpoints to attract consumers during the early decision-making phase.

To solve this, Play Media designed, built, and executed a custom blog content strategy engineered for modern search behavior – balancing traditional organic SEO with Google’s Generative AI optimization (GEO).

The Challenge: Fresh Domain Friction & Shifting Search Dynamics

Before the blog, our team had already optimized the main category and product pages on the client’s website. The foundations were solid, but as a new domain in a highly competitive e-commerce niche, it had gaps that product pages alone can’t close:

  1. No topical authority. Google had no reason to see the brand as an expert in phones or wearables. Standard product category pages could not easily rank for high-volume, non-branded search terms.
  2. No top-of-funnel presence. Product pages only catch people who are ready to buy. Without an informational hub, the brand had no organic funnel to capture prospective buyers researching products.
  3. No visibility in AI answers. More and more searches now end in Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode summaries at the top of search results. A brand that isn’t cited there risks being invisible at the moment of decision.

The goal was clear and simple: Build an authoritative blog section from scratch that captures non-branded high-intent search demand, builds topical authority, earns citations in AI-generated answers, and routes qualified traffic directly to product pages and products.

🔔Results: What We Expected vs. What Happened

On a relatively new domain with a brand-new blog section built from scratch, the usual timeline looks like this:

  • Indexing: days to a few weeks
  • First rankings: typically several weeks to a couple of months
  • Stable rankings and meaningful traffic: usually 3 to 6 months, sometimes longer
  • AI Overview citations: rarely an early-stage outcome, because AI systems tend to favor established, trusted sources

We planned for that timeline. What came back was much faster and bigger than what we anticipated.

First 10 Days: Results Before We Expected Any

The blog launched on 07.09.2026. Six of the first eight articles were only nine days old at the time of the preliminary report (16.09.2026), and the other two were six to seven days old. In that short window, search performance far exceeded initial expectations:

Results Around the First WeekValue

Top 5 rankings17 keywords
Top 3 rankings5 keywords,
including 3 at position #1
Google Search impressions / clicks2,698 / 62
(CTR 2.30%) on brand-new URL structures
Impressions in Google AI answers693,
with 7 of 8 blogs already present

Every one of the first eight blogs ranked in the top 5 for its main target keywords.

AI Visibility

The brand was cited in 52% of AI Overview answers across 32  most relevant tracked keywords.

  • 97% of them (31 of 32) triggered a Google AI Overview.
  • The brand was cited as a source in 52% of those answers.
  • In 15 of 16 citations, our client was among the top 3 sources, ranking as the #1 cited source on 7 queries
  • In every citation, the brand’s name appeared in the answer text itself.

Why does that matter? For a growing share of searches, people get what they need directly from the AI answer at the top of the page and never scroll. Being cited, linked, and named there means the brand is building brand awareness and authority at the most prominent spot on the results page, whether or not the user clicks – in under 10 days.

Scaled Growth Less Than a Month In

By late September 2026 (only 23 days in), cumulative performance continued its upward trajectory across traditional search and AI surfaces, and shows that the early momentum has kept building. At the time of writing, the blog is not even a full month old, yet it has yielded:

  • 14,400 Total Organic Impressions across Google Search.
  • 307 Organic Clicks with an average position of 5.4 across tracked keywords.
  • 3,490 Generative AI Impressions recorded in Google Search Console’s Generative AI performance report.

Compared with the first 10 days, impressions are up roughly 5x and clicks roughly 5x. The daily impressions and clicks curves are still climbing sharply, with the steepest rise in the last few days. Individual Blog Performance (GSC Data, Top Pages) Here’s a performance snapshot of all individual blog posts:

Generative AI performance (GSC, beta)

Google’s new Generative AI performance report shows the blog’s visibility inside AI answers. Total AI impressions have reached 3.49K – showing that AI visibility is growing even faster than classic search traffic. Daily AI impressions were stable at around 150 to 200 per day during the first weeks, and have now jumped to roughly 770 in a single day.

Several blogs are among the top pages of the entire website by impressions in Generative AI.The topics with the strongest commercial intent, phone buying guides and budget picks, are driving the most clicks – and that’s the exact traffic most likely to end up on product pages.

Position Tracking (Semrush, Keywords)

To monitor keyword momentum and ranking velocity post-launch, Play Media established continuous position tracking in Semrush. To measure total topical depth rather than isolated head terms, the tracking scope includes each article’s primary focus keyword + 1 to 5 relevant secondary keywords.

During the 23-day period, from Sept. 07 to Sept. 30, 2026, there were:

  • 16 Tracked Keywords at Position #1: 16 keywords claimed the top spot (#1) on Google SERP.
  • 10 Tracked Keywords in the Top 10: 10 additional tracked keywords secured Page 1 positioning, establishing immediate organic visibility against legacy tech competitors.
  • 17 Keywords Featured in Google AI Overviews: 17 tracked terms successfully triggered Google Generative AI answer blocks, with the brand cited as a primary authoritative source.

Agile Content in Action: Real-Time SEO & Newsjacking

In consumer technology, search volume spikes dramatically around major product unveilings. When Apple officially introduced the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max series, we knew where consumer attention would flood in – presuming that buyers across Serbia would be searching for specs, feature comparisons, and release details + looking into buying.

To capture this high-intent traffic wave, we acted right away. Rather than waiting for demand to settle, we published an in-depth educational guide on this topic.

In just a week (7 days), this single news/educational article generated over 5,050 organic impressions on Google with an average ranking position of 6.2, instantly inserting the brand into high-volume flagship phone conversations.Within days of publishing, the article climbed into the top 5 results on Google for primary search terms, including iphone 18, iphone 18 pro, iphone 18 pro max, and iphone 18 specs. Google’s LLM engine selected the post to feature directly inside Google AI Overviews for several search terms, granting the brand prime real estate above traditional search results.

  • Capturing High-Intent Early Adopters: Consumers searching for new flagship phone specs in real time are prime candidates for purchasing unlocked devices. By providing immediate, clear, and comprehensive answers, the brand established trust at the very beginning of the buyer journey.
  • Top-of-Funnel E-Commerce Routing: The article was strategically interlinked directly with the brand’s flagship iPhone product category pages, converting informational readers into prospective buyers browsing store inventory.
  • Building Domain Freshness & Authority: Search engines heavily reward domains that cover breaking industry news quickly and comprehensively. Demonstrating rapid content deployment signaled to Google that this is an active, authoritative voice in the mobile technology sector.

How We Made It Happen: Strategic Architecture & Hybrid Optimization (SEO + GEO)

Standard industry benchmarks dictate that a brand-new blog on a fresh domain requires several weeks to months to achieve indexation, gain search engine trust, and yield meaningful rankings. Play Media accelerated this timeline through a four-tier execution model.

Step 1. Keyword Architecture Around Real Demand & Opportunities

We ran in-depth keyword research in Semrush, looking at three things:

  • Search intent (are people trying to learn, compare, or buy?)
  • Search volume and difficulty
  • Competition and the gaps competitors had left open

Step 2. Topic Clustering

Instead of publishing random topics, we planned the blog section as a system using the pillar-cluster model:

  • Three pillar areas matching core business categories: Phones, Smartwatches & Accessories/Gadgets.
  • Supporting cluster articles around each pillar, starting with the broadest, highest-value topics and then going deeper.

We also deliberately mixed content types around relevant, high-intent, and high-volume search terms, so we’d meet users at every stage of the journey (e.g., buying guides, product comparisons, recommendations, how-to & troubleshooting articles, etc.). This does two things:

  1. Readers get a clear path from general topics to specific ones.
  2. Search engines see connected, in-depth coverage of each subject, which is what topical authority looks like.

Step 3: Dual-Audience Optimization (Human Readers + AI Engine Crawlers)

Today, content needs to be written for people, search engines, and LLMs. Every article was written in line with the brand’s recognizable voice: natural, approachable, and easy to read, the way a knowledgeable friend would explain tech. Underneath, each was engineered for both traditional SEO and AIO/GEO (Generative Engine Optimization):

  • Direct answer blocks and bulleted lists built for AI snippet extraction.
  • Structured data tables, comparison layouts, and concise summaries that are easy for users and crawlers to parse.
  • Scannable formatting for readability.
  • Embedded product carousels as a powerful bridge between informational content and e-commerce conversions.
  • Question-based headings that match how people actually search.
  • Original, practical advice instead of recycled generic content.
  • Contextual internal linking with descriptive anchor text between related articles and product pages.
  • Credible external sources, where applicable.

Step 4: Publishing Standards That Leave Nothing to Chance

Each article went live with a full technical checklist:

  • SERP Optimization: Meta titles and descriptions crafted strictly within SERP pixel limits with focus keywords.
  • Visual Performance: Images compressed under 100KB for page speed with keyword-relevant file names and descriptive alt text matched to the section they support, utilizing licensed photography and targeted AI visuals. Embedded videos where it added value.
  • Accelerated Indexing: Every post was immediately submitted for manual indexation via Google Search Console upon publishing, to shorten the wait.

Step 5. Tracking Setup

Finally, we set up Google Search Console tracking and Semrush Position Tracking for the target terms, so we could measure exactly what was working.

What’s Next: Scaling Topical Authority & Ongoing Strategy

A blog is a long-term asset that compounds, and this one is just getting started. Play Media continues to manage and scale this client’s blog infrastructure to build long-term market authority and drive sustainable growth with:

  • A steady publishing rhythm of 1 to 2 new articles per week, so our client keeps expanding its topical coverage.
  • Quarterly content plans built around timely topics, alongside evergreen guides that keep earning traffic.
  • Deeper coverage of every pillar blog to strengthen the brand’s position as a go-to expert.
  • Continuous tracking and optimization, refreshing what works and improving what has room to grow.
  • Ongoing SEO & AI/GEO optimization to keep the brand in AI Overviews and AI Mode as those surfaces evolve, as well as on top of Google SERPs.

Together, this means more qualified traffic, more resources for shoppers at every stage, and a brand that shoppers and search engines both recognize as an authoritative expert in its niche.
